As a professional car designer, my mission transcends mere accessorizing. Unlike typical body kits for the BMW XM that involve adding carbon parts to the existing structure, my goal is to revolutionize the vehicle’s design. True car design should not just enhance but transform, and that’s precisely what I set out to achieve with my custom wide body kit.
The Philosophy Behind My Design
I strive to introduce innovative designs that fundamentally alter a vehicle’s appearance. For the BMW XM, I envisioned a wide body kit that completely redefines its bumpers and fenders. This approach was inspired by the art of origami, where a flat sheet is transformed into a complex and beautiful structure. This principle guided me in creating an origami-style front bumper and adapting other parts of the body kit to maintain this cohesive aesthetic.
The Design Process
Designing a custom wide body kit is a meticulous process that combines understanding the car's original design, navigating engineering constraints, and fulfilling an artistic vision. My approach began withstudying the BMW XM’s form and functionality to ensure that my modifications would enhance both performance and visual impact.
I started with sketches, exploring how to seamlessly integrate the origami style into the car’s design. The challenge was to ensure that the new parts looked integrated and natural, rather than like add-ons. After several iterations, I moved to digital modeling to refine the shapes and ensure perfect compatibility with the BMW XM’s existing structure.
Bringing the Vision to Life
One of the most exciting milestones in this journey was finding a customer who believed in my vision and commissioned the custom body kit. This opportunity allowed me to transition from concept to reality. The design includes a new front bumper with sharp, angular lines reminiscent of origami folds, widened fenders for a more aggressive stance, and a redesigned rear bumper to complement the front.
